Start Seeing Diversity Gender and Sexual Orientation
We think about diversity every day in our day to day action.
Diversity can be all around us in the media, in books, in television shows, and
toys and games. We all see difference
form of diversity in what is represented. The director of the day care seen
came to you to talk to you about a conversation that can up with one of the
parents. The family members do not believe that the early childhood development
class should be the place for the children to demonstrated books, picture, of
individual in same sex relationship and family. The family feels this message sent
the wrong message to small children. The
director wishes to hear the response of the staff in order to give a reply to the
family member. The staff informed the director that diversity can be a part of the
children learning process. When children understand the important of family and
that a family can come in many size, color, religion, and group (Derman-Sparks, & Edwards, J. (2010). Teaching
diversity will help children learn about difference culture. When children understand
diversity that will understand family they do not label other children. They do not prejudge one child went they identify
family that may be the difference from the tradition family. As our
teacher is working to show the diversity of all family by not include anyone
for learning and understanding they culture. The teachers show family in more diversity we demonstrate
the change in time and our nation culture.
As this culture change we fact many diversity as our
children become more accustomed to this change. They find that someone that is
difference because of what they wear they look, the way they talk. Children formal
labels that they call other children that are difference that can be hurtful. That use this label from homophobic term such
as fag, gay, homo, sissy, tomboy, or “lesbo” as an insult by a child toward
another child (Pelo, A. 2008). Children
that are targeted in early elementary with name calling are aware of
stereotypes. Because homosexuality is such a charged issue, teachers rarely
confront children who use homophobia name-calling to humiliate and infuriate
others. Sometime children do not truly understand simply takes the time to tell
the class means a group of people; children will often stop using the word Derman-Sparks, & Edwards, J. (2010).
